Pixel per Em - is an individual creative showcase for Emily Lam. Derived from the measurement standard from Apple Computers in the 80s, Pixelperem refers to Emily's artwork ranging from online / UI / print platform in measurement unit like pixel and meters (em). Being eye-in-detail to every pixel, Emily wants to bring her creativity beyond the boundary.

The Paperweight Awards, first held in 2014, is an award to recognize the most talented Designers and Printers in the Asia. With judges from around the world, the Paperweight Awards honors those who give the most creative weight to creative papers in their line of commissioned work. IN MY LIFE - PEARL OF THE ORIENT

Collaborating Artist  |  Vancouver, Canada

An Exhibition for my pixel art project "So House" took place in the Aberdeen Centre, Vancouver, Canada. The exhibition promoted Hong Kong’s cultural heritage by using 1x1 square pixel art. It is a metaphor for special condensed living conditions in Hong Kong.

My artwork illustrated the neighborhood bonding and mutual support between each household in the old times. The bonding started diminishing under the migration wave from Hong Kong to other countries before the handover of 1997, resulting from a cultural interchange.

Being interviewed by the local Chinese newspaper as well as Shaw Cable TV Canada, I wanted to raise the public awareness to the cultural interchange between Hong Kong and other countries. I wanted to address the idea of East meets West with my multicultural background and personal experiences and hoping to reconnect with where I originated again.

ABOUT

Emily developed her passion for drawing and had won multiple awards when she was a child. Later she moved to Toronto, Canada, and achieved a Design major from the Faculty of Image Arts New Media at Ryerson Univerity and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours. She later returned to Hong Kong to further developed her experiences in print, UI and digital discipline.

Emily develops her keen interest in different cultural exchange and expresses her personal perception about her nostalgia of seeing Chinese and Hong Kong local culture through her eyes as a Chinese Canadian living in the west. As her personal artwork always demonstrates East meets West and cultural dilemma resulting from cultural differences.
